A Telecom/Cable industry leader had acquired several companies over a 3-year period. Salesforce was used along with different billing systems, ICOMS and USHACOMM. The process for creating accounts and new orders was mostly a manual process that involved Order Entry Reps using several monitors to look up information from Account and Opportunity in Salesforce then create a new Billing and Install Order in the billing systems. Manual entry was complicated and prone to errors. This slowed down processing of orders as well as the time needed to correct errors. Of course, this was negatively impacting the work environment as well as the customer experience.
Our consultant designed and implemented an integration between Salesforce Account and Opportunity objects with the ICOMS and USHACOM telecom billing systems. This integration allows Order Entry Reps to create orders in Salesforce and push them into the respective billing system. There are several components of the solution:
- Visualforce pages that display all required fields to create the order
- Validation rules to check that all required data is provided by the Rep
- APEX logic to pass the data to the SOAP and REST APIs of the ICOMS and USHACOMM billing systems
Our client’s Order Entry process takes less time and is much less vulnerable to error. Order Entry Reps are more efficient, more accurate and less frustrated now that they no longer juggle multiple systems. It is a more positive, streamlined experience for the customer.
